About CE workshops03
Writing drawn from original doctoral research on men's experiences of harm inside relationships.
Read the seriesAlexander Seto Therapy exists to strengthen families in Hawaiʻi — so that children grow up in homes that are stable, safe, and whole.
Too often, the people holding a family together are the ones no one thinks to ask about. This practice was built for the parents and partners who fall through that gap — to help them find steady ground, because a family that holds together is the foundation everything else is built on.
“Peacemaking through placemaking.”
I grew up in a stable family. That's not something I take for granted — it's what convinced me a family holding together is worth serious work.
The rest I learned from clients. Early in my career I sat with fathers who had lost contact with their children — not because they were dangerous, but because they ran out of money before the process ran out of steps. What struck me most wasn't the outcome. It was how rarely anyone believed them along the way.
That's the reason I went back for a doctorate. My dissertation examined how mental health practitioners respond to men who've been harmed inside their relationships. What I found: clinicians want to help but were rarely trained to see it — and being believed by one person is often what makes everything after it possible. I named that research Forgotten Fathers, in honor of my clients.
What I'd want you to know: I care about truth. Not as an abstraction, but as a working principle — that what you tell me about your own life is the starting point, not a claim to be verified. If that sounds unremarkable, you may not have needed it yet. If it doesn't, you probably have.

Forgotten Fathers — the series
Why the first response a man receives often determines everything after it.
The fear that keeps men out, and where it comes from.
What to ask, what to look for, and what to do when the first try goes badly.
No more than once a month — often less. Only when a new piece is published.
